41. Miss Rathboneasked the Secretary of State for War whether he can now make a statement as to his proposed action concerning the Report of the Committee on the Status of the Voluntary Aid Detachments in. Military Hospitals; and as to whether its recommendations will be carried into effect?
§ Sir J. GriggI propose, so far as the War Office is concerned, to accept the Report of the Committee, which was published this morning as a White Paper, but as I undertook to make a statement to the House before taking action, I shall not actually promulgate the decision until I learn whether it is the wish of the House to discuss the Report. I would add that I understand that the voluntary bodies concerned are satisfied that the recommendations made by the Committee offer a fair solution to the problem, having regard to the many factors which had to be considered.
Miss RathboneAre we to understand from that answer that the right hon. Gentleman himself as well as the voluntary organisations concerned are on the whole satisfied with the recommendations?
§ Sir J. GriggI think on the whole it is a very satisfactory solution of an intractable problem.
