HC Deb 08 June 1943 vol 390 c531
48. Mr. Purbrick

asked the Prime Minister whether, with a view to releasing man-power and increasing efficiency, he will arrange for the police forces of the three Services to be amalgamated and have one police force to carry out all these duties?

Mr. Attlee

The number of military police is always taken into account when the establishments of the Royal Air Force police are being fixed. There are, moreover, definite advantages for the Services in the present arrangements—for example, it is essential to have military police with military formations in the field—and I do not think the change suggested by my hon. Friend is necessary.

Sir Herbert Williams

How many brands of military police are now wandering around in London?

Mr. Attlee

I could not say.
