HC Deb 28 July 1943 vol 391 c1568
44. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the importance of cost of-living surveys to social progress and the fact that they have been instituted in a number of British Colonies, steps will now be taken to carry out a cost-of-living survey in Tanganyika at the earliest practicable date?

Colonel Stanley

There is a Cost of Living Committee in Tanganyika, and the Civil Service bonuses mentioned in the answer I gave to my hon. Friend on 14th July were arrived at after inquiries instituted by this Committee into comparative individual budgets for 1939 and 1943. I am placing a copy of the Committee's Report in the Library of the House.
