HC Deb 20 July 1943 vol 391 c672
21. Sir R. Young

asked the Secretary of State for War under what condition of service it is necessary to post men overseas without any embarkation leave; and whether, in any case, such a condition of service applies to men engaged as mental nursing orderlies and especially to those who had hospital treatment arising from the Dunkirk evacuation?

Sir J. Grigg

In most cases when embarkation leave is not given this is due either to the need for secrecy, as when the First Army was embarked, or to a sudden call for a draft, usually composed of men with special qualifications. These considerations apply to the men mentioned in the Question provided they are of the appropriate medical category for service overseas.
