HC Deb 28 January 1943 vol 386 c597
26. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India whether in view of the sustained Indian demand and its endorsement in many British quarters, he will reconsider raising the existing ban on contact between non-Congress representatives and Congress leaders in order that they may discuss possible political developments?

The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)

The decision in this matter was taken by the Government of India, and I see no reason to ask them to reconsider it.

Mr. Sorensen

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that many persons not belonging to the Congress political party are urging that some contact should be allowed?

Mr. Amery

Yes, Sir.
