HC Deb 28 January 1943 vol 386 c592
16. Captain W. T. Shaw

asked the Minister of Labour whether Miss Edith Gray, formerly of 12, Westport, Arbroath, compulsorily transferred to a place of which he has been informed, is still employed there by the Workers Travel Association; by what authority this transfer was made; and for what reason?

Mr. Bevin

Yes, Sir. Miss Gray is still employed at the place referred to, which is a Ministry of Supply munition workers' hostel. She was directed there by the National Service officer after interview under the Registration for Employment Order.

Captain Shaw

Will the right hon. Gentleman consult the Secretary of State for Scotland before transferring these people from Scotland to England?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir; there happens to be one war, both in Scotland and in England.

Captain Shaw

Is it not a fact that Scottish industry seems to be overlooked by the Department, and would the right hon. Gentleman suggest to the Prime Minister that a Scottish representative be appointed to the War Cabinet?
