HC Deb 25 February 1943 vol 387 c280
16. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that invitations are being broadcast from Japan to listen to, and apply, directions respecting methods of sabotage broadcast on the wireless by Colonel Britton and others from Great Britain; whether he has been in consultation with the Ministry of Information on this matter; and whether any attempt has been made to prevent sabotage propaganda being received in India through the British Broadcasting Corporation?

Mr. Amery

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. The B.B.C.'s European Services do not include any directions regarding sabotage, nor are those services normally receivable in India.

Mr. Sorensen

Is the right. hon. Gentleman aware that in fact Subhas Bose, who, he knows, has been deposed by Congress, has been broadcasting from Tokyo an invitation to certain sections of the Indian population to listen to Colonel Britton and adopt his methods?

Mr. Amery

I understand that, apart from a short Christmas message, Colonel Britton has not spoken on the European service for 10 months or more.

Mr. Sorensen

Is the right hon. Gentleman taking any steps to deal with Mr. Bose's reiteration of sabotage methods as applied to India?

Mr. Amery

I have made inquiries, and there is no substance behind it.
