HC Deb 25 February 1943 vol 387 cc283-4
20. Major Lyons

asked the Home Secretary whether he can now make a statement upon the introduction of double summer time for the present year?

23. Major Vyvyan Adams

asked the Home Secretary whether he can now state at what date double summer-time will begin and when it will end; and whether he intends to introduce legislation to make double summer-time a permanent feature of that period of the year when daylight is longer?

Mr. H. Morrison

The Government have decided, after considering the interests affected, that double summer-time shall start this year on the morning of Sunday, 4th April, and end on the morning of Sunday, 15th August. As regards the second part of the Question by my hon. Friend the Member for West Leeds (Major Adams), I think it would be premature to take a decision on that matter at the present date.
