HC Deb 17 February 1943 vol 386 cc1738-40
57. Mr. Thorne

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he can give any information on the distribution of food from the Barking food office; what he intends doing with Leonard D. Blake, former executive food officer? and eight other men and one woman, most of them grocers or sweet manufacturers, who were charged with conspiring to contravene the provisions of the Sugar (Control) Order, 1940, when many tons of sugar had been obtained improperly and sold by the defendants?

Mr. Mabane

Leonard D. Blake and 9 other persons and firms have been prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions on charges of conspiring to contravene Article 2 of the Sugar (Control) Order, 1940, contrary to Regulations 55 and 90 of the Defence Regulations. As the matter is sub judice my hon. Friend will appreciate that it would not be proper for me to make any further statement at this stage.
