HC Deb 16 February 1943 vol 386 cc1593-4
64. Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that when a member of the Services who has been in private billets is moved to another station he is not permitted to give information regarding his destination and that packages which arrive for him after his departure have to be held until a new address arrives and, as a consequence, a fresh postage has to be paid upon the package; and whether he will waive the regulation, permitting free re-posting only up to the day after receipt in the case of Service personnel?

Mr. Grimston

The regulations governing redirection provide that letters or parcels addressed to officers or other ranks of His Majesty's Forces serving in this country, which are redirected after delivery shall be exempt from payment of fresh postage. If the hon. Member will bring to my notice any case in which the instructions have been misunderstood, I will have inquiry made.
