asked the President of the Board of Trade the aggregate amount of the salaries paid to the 34 Assistant Secretaries in his Department; and how many of them were in the public service prior to the war?

Mr. Dalton

The Assistant Secretaries in my Department are paid at Civil Service standard rates. The total amount of their salaries is £40,725 a year. Twenty-four were in the public service before the war.
