HC Deb 02 February 1943 vol 386 cc739-40
33. Mr. McKinlay

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will state the amount spent on converting a building, of which he has been informed, to the requirements of his Ministry in 1939, 1940, and 1941?

Sir J. Grigg

When this building was requisitioned in November, 1940, it was unfinished and £31,000 has been spent in completing it to meet military requirements.

Mr. McKinlay

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that that is the complete answer to the Question put by the hon. and gallant Member for East Renfrew (Major Lloyd), that this building was constructed and built as a hospital and that the War Department propose to build a hospital on the other side of the road and use this one for some other purpose?

Sir J. Grigg

This particular building is the one under consideration in connection with the matter raised by my hon. and gallant Friend.

Mr. Davidson

Has the city engineer of the area referred to been consulted?

Sir J. Grigg

I could not answer that.
