§ 35. Mr. Bellengerasked the Secretary of State for War whether officers and men draw the same rations while serving overseas?
§ Sir J. GriggThe ration entitlement of officers and men abroad is the same except in the matter of suppers. When rations are issued partly in kind and partly in cash officers do not receive that part of the cash which represents the provision of supper. When, however, rations are issued wholly in kind this distinction cannot be maintained and officers and men then receive exactly the same rations.
§ Mr. BellengerWhy does not the right hon. Gentleman cease the distinction which operates in this country? Is he aware that if he would do that, it might then be possible to arrange a uniform rate of messing throughout the British Isles?
§ Sir J. GriggI am perfectly well aware of the first consideration, and I have it very much in mind, but I am not sure the result referred to by the hon. Member would follow even if the consideration led to favourable results.
