HC Deb 02 February 1943 vol 386 c742
37. Captain C. S. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for War how many officers and other ranks were returned from the Middle East in 1942 with skin diseases contracted before they were sent to that theatre of the war; and whether he is satisfied that medical inspection of drafts for the Middle East is satisfactory?

Sir J. Grigg

23 officers and 198 other ranks were returned from the Middle East in 1942 with skin diseases. It is not known how many of these contracted the diseases before they left this country, but the number is likely to be very small. I am satisfied that a very complete system of medical inspection of troops going overseas is in operation, and that no one suffering from a serious skin disease is sent abroad.
