HC Deb 15 December 1943 vol 395 cc1555-6
78. Mr. Ivor Thomas

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether it is the post-war policy of His Majesty's Government not to promote the re-equipment of industry until the demand for consumption goods has been substantially met?

Captain Waterhouse

It will be the Government's wish to proceed with both kinds of production as quickly as our resources and prevailing conditions will allow. The physical resources will clearly be insufficient to proceed with everything at once, and priorities will have to be arranged which can be adapted at short notice according to circumstances.

Mr. Thomas

Is the hon. and Gallant Gentleman aware that some concern has been caused by the speech of the Minister of Production in this House on 30th November? Will he see that the re-equipment of industry will be given equal priority with the production of consumption goods?
