HC Deb 07 December 1943 vol 395 c750
4. Captain Gammans

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is yet in a position to make any statement on the policy of the Government with regard to the re-entry into business of small retail distributors who have been forced out of business for any reason as a result of the war?

Mr. Dalton

I have now completed my discussions on this matter with the principal organisations concerned, and hope to make a statement shortly.

Mr. Leach

Will my right hon. Friend consider advising local authorities who own shops where a small man has had to go to the war to make available these premises when the man has come back?

Mr. Dalton

I am obliged for that suggestion. I will certainly look into it. I am anxious to make a statement soon which will be in general accord with the recommendations I have received.
