HC Deb 07 December 1943 vol 395 cc771-2
46. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the suddenness with which the last war ended, he will give an assurance that plans for the transition of the national economy to a peace footing have been prepared and are ready to be put into immediate action when necessary?

Mr. Attlee

No, Sir. His Majesty's Government are not in a position to say that all plans for the transitional period are complete, but I can assure my hon. Friend that the Government are pressing forward with their schemes as quickly as possible. I would refer him to the statement which I made on this matter in the Debate on the Address on 24th November.

Mr. De la Bère

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is a wide section of informed public opinion which is wondering and anxious over these matters? Would he use every possible endeavour to concentrate on them, in view of the urgency of the need for something to be done?
