HC Deb 29 September 1942 vol 383 cc645-6
9. Mr. Colman

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware of the large amount of fuel which is wasted in providing light to illuminate rooms without sufficient natural light owing to the total or partial blocking up of windows with opaque material following air-raid damage; and whether, in these circumstances he can arrange with the departments concerned to release a greater quantity of translucent material for the repairing of damaged windows up and down the country?

Major Lloyd George

The answer to the first part of the Question is "Yes, Sir." As to the second part, the difficulty of restoring daylight to such rooms arises from the shortage of materials, but I am considering, in conjunction with my Noble Friend the Minister of Works and Planning, the possibility of increasing the supply of translucent materials.
