HC Deb 10 September 1942 vol 383 c281
32. Dr. Little

asked the Home Secretary whether, as the matter has become increasingly urgent, he will make stricter regulations for crossing and recrossing the border between Eire and Northern Ireland?

Mr. H. Morrison

There is nothing I can usefully add to the replies which I have given to previous Questions by my hon. Friend on this subject.

Dr. Little

Arising out of that answer, I should like to ask my right hon. Friend seriously whether he is aware that gunmen are crossing and recrossing the border between Eire and Northern Ireland without interference, that arms, munitions and explosives can easily be brought across——

Mr. Speaker

rose——

Professor Savory

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that six individuals, citizens of Eire, were prosecuted and fined at Omagh for being in Northern Ireland without certificates, and what I want to know is how they got into Northern Ireland; and what Service is responsible for allowing them to get into Northern Ireland?

Mr. Morrison

I can only say that I am delighted to find that the efficient police of Northern Ireland detected these persons.

Professor Savory

Only when they were over the border.
