49. Mr. Kirby

asked the Prime Minister whether he has any statement to make as to the outcome of the deputation he received on 9th September, 1942, pressing for alterations in the present regulations, etc., regarding the differential rates of compensation as between men and women under the Personal Injuries (Civilians) Scheme, and the demand of large sections of the public for equal compensation to be paid to women if enrolled for fire-watching, thus undertaking equal duties with men and equal risks?

The deputation to which my hon. Friend refers was received by the Deputy Prime Minister yesterday, who undertook that the representations made would receive the fullest consideration. My right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to make a statement on the matter.

Can the Prime Minister tell us when the right hon. Gentleman is likely to be able to make a statement?
