HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 cc1603-4
5. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the proposed United National Commission to deal with the problem of war criminals will be empowered to collect evidence about and indict such Nazi leaders as Hitler, Goering, Goebbels and Himmler?

Mr. Law

The proposed United Nations Commission for the investigation of war crimes is intended to be a fact-finding body. As such its function would be to record the evidence submitted to it by the Governments concerned against all individuals responsible, whether as ringleaders or as actual perpetrators, for the commission of atrocities. It will be open to the Governments concerned to submit to the Commission any such evidence against the persons so responsible whoever they may be.
