HC Deb 08 October 1942 vol 383 cc1366-7
60. Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that doctors are prescribing Ryvita for persons forbidden to eat bread and potatoes; and whether arrangements will be made in these cases to supply this food free of points, or whether the Ministry's medical advisers can recommend an alternative unrationed food?

Mr. Mabane

The question of the sensitivity of certain persons to national flour is at present under consideration by the Food Rationing (Special Diets) Advisory Committee of the Medical Research Council, and my Department is awaiting a report. I will communicate with my hon. Friend after the report has been received.

Mr. Evelyn Walkden

What types of cases are to be considered? Members of Parliament have already had issued to them a statement about gastric cases.

Mr. Mabane

The view is held in some quarters that the wheat germ may have bad effects on some people, and that is being considered by the Special Diets Advisory Committee.
