HC Deb 08 October 1942 vol 383 cc1334-5
15. Mr. Kenneth Lindsay

asked the Minister of Labour how many of the 28,000 boys and girls registered as unemployed on 17th August are now in employment?

Mr. Bevin

No statistics are available directly relating to this point. There are, however, grounds for concluding that the majority of those registered as unemployed in August shortly after leaving school have been found employment.

Mr. Lindsay

When will the further figures be available? Could my right hon. Friend say in which part of the country these young people are living—whether in industrial areas?

Mr. Bevin

I could not answer that without notice.

Mr. Thorne

What is the minimum age at which boys and girls are entitled to register at the exchanges?

Mr. Bevin

Immediately they leave school.
