HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 cc1058-9
23. Mr. Burke

asked the Secretary of State whether he will inquire into the increased amount of crime and pay stoppages which have occurred recently in a unit, of which he has been informed, stationed in Cheshire?

Sir J. Grigg

I have had a report made to me of offences committed and stoppages of pay imposed in this unit in the last four months. These are low in themselves and show no recent increase. I am therefore at a loss to know on what information my hon. Friend can have based his Question.

Mr. Burke

Did the right hon. Gentleman compare the stoppages during the last four months with the stoppages during the two years previous to that time?

Sir J. Grigg

I have made a comparison with past periods, but I cannot say, without looking it up, over what exact period the comparison was made.
