HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 c1059
24. Mr. Burke

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in certain units men are compelled to parade for attendance at Entertainments National Service Association concerts, and will he take steps to put a stop to this practice?

Sir J. Grigg

I am aware of no such case, but if my hon. Friend will give me details of any, I shall be glad to make inquiries.

Mr. Burke

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries in the unit to which I have referred in Question No. 23?

Sir J. Grigg

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Molson

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that in many cases officers ask E.N.S.A. to come, and, therefore, they try to make certain that there will be a decent attendance?

Mr. Burke

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that there are some men who may not like that particular form of entertainment and that it should not be inflicted upon them?
