HC Deb 01 October 1942 vol 383 cc915-6
33. Mr. Denville

asked the Home Secretary whether he is prepared to introduce regulations or legislation for the imposition of drastic penalties, including flogging, of persons found guilty of stealing from allotments or any other growing foodstuffs?

Mr. H. Morrison

No, Sir. I have no evidence that the present severe penalties are inadequate.

Mr. Denville

Has the right hon. Gentleman's attention been drawn to a case recently where a person was ordered to pay a small fine for persistent robbing from allotments in a Northern town?

Mr. Morrison

No, Sir.

Mr. Sorensen

Will not my right hon. Friend resist this tendency to sadistic penalties?
