HC Deb 01 October 1942 vol 383 c902
6. Sir Ralph Glyn

asked the Minister of Latour, under what circumstances is danger pay granted to contractors' workmen engaged on work on aerodromes, etc.?

Mr. Bevin

Under the working rules of the Civil Engineering Constractional Conciliation Board and of the National Joint Council for the Building Industry (England and Wales) additions to the standard rates are payable in certain cir-cumstaices for working at heights, underground or at high temperatures. The working rules of the Scottish National Joint Council for the Building Industry empower Local Joint Committees to arrange special terms when work of an extra hazardous nature has to be done. The circumstances in which such extra payments are made is a matter for settlement between the parties in the light of the agreements under which the work is being performed.

Sir R. Glyn

I am obliged to my right hon. Friend for his statement, but can he say under what conditions such pay is given as regards danger from enemy action, which he has not mentioned?

Mr. Bevin

I do not know that there is any payment for that special purpose.

Sir R. Glyn

Will my right hon. Friend make inquiry at certain places and aerodromes where workers are being paid danger pay?
