HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c506
72. Major Peto

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he has considered the copy sent to him of a statement made at the Labour Institute at Kettering, on 3rd October, by the acting president of the Workers' Educational Association; and whether he will take steps to ensure that no such partisan or contentious political pronouncements are made in future by officials of grant-aided bodies?

Mr. Butler

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. The acceptance by a body of grant from the Board in respect of its educational work should not be taken as placing a limitation on the right of free speech enjoyed by its officers and members.
