HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c493
67. Mr. Hannah

asked the Home Secretary whether he realises that the report and control staff in the case of non-scheme making authorities are not allowed uniforms; that this, in the case of nightwork, is extremely uncomfortable and hard on clothing, especially for girls; and will he have uniforms provided?

Mr. H. Morrison

The provision of uniform for Civil Defence personnel is at the discretion of the individual local authority. The authorized uniform for persons serving in Report and Control Centres is a cotton overall with beret and great coat. In view of the nature of the work and the very difficult supply position, I do not feel justified in authorizing the supply of serge uniforms.
