HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 cc485-6
28. Mr. Kenneth Lindsay

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can offer any explanation for the persistence of juvenile unemployment generally above the figure of 20,000 during the past year?

Mr. Bevin

There is little persistent unemployment among juveniles, and that little is found only in certain areas. The figure to which my hon. Friend refers represents mainly the number of boys and girls changing over from one job to another on the day of the count and the effect of school-leaving. In general, the experience is that a juvenile registering for employment is placed very shortly after registration.
