HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 cc512-3
87. Mr. Guy

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the complete absence of any social welfare service at Ilminster, Somerset, where there are evacuated women from Poplar, West Ham, Plaistow and other places, together with 100 children; and whether he will take steps to provide this?

Mr. E. Brown

In the Ilminster Urban District there are seven mothers and 11 children billeted under the Government Evacuation Scheme. Welfare workers employed by the Somerset County Council visit the district, but this small number of evacuated women and children has been absorbed into the life of the locality, and special welfare activities for them are not called for.
