asked the Minister of Health whether he will instruct billeting authorities to exclude from calculation of available, space rooms reserved for the use, when on leave, of members of the Armed Forces in their own or their parents' homes?

Mr. E. Brown

I am afraid that pressure on accommodation would make it impossible to issue any general direction of this kind, but I am confident that billeting officers will always be ready to do every-thing in their power to meet the convenience of householders who are expecting members of their family home on leave in the near future.

Will the right hon. Gentleman give instructions that such billeting is to be limited to short periods in exceptional emergency and is not to be extended indefinitely?

Mr. Brown

I have said that I cannot give a general direction of this kind without considering what it means; it would result in the sterilisation of several million rooms.
