Brownasked the Minister of Information whether steps will be taken to denationalise the British Broadcasting Corporation with a view to enabling it to become freer and more representative of current opinion in the country than is the case under the present system of dual control between the Board of Governors and the Ministry of Information?
§ Mr. BrackenThe hon. Gentleman's conversion to the merits of private enterprise is indeed noteworthy. But I regret I cannot accept his suggestion. The Board of Governors recognise that it is necessary in war-time for the Government to control the policy of the B.B.C. in matters affecting the war effort. I do not think that this measure of Government control has prevented the B.B.C. from adequately reflecting current opinion in the country.
