asked the President of the Board of Trade whether it is proposed to publish, and, if so, when, a list of firms designated as makers-up of utility apparel; whether, in the selection of designated firms, he will be, or has been, advised by persons associated with the trades concerned; whether he will publish the names of such advisers; and what steps have been taken to ensure that the interests of the small makers-up are' not sacrificed for the benefit of the larger makers-up?

A provisional list of designated clothing firms will be published shortly. The Board of Trade have been advised on designation by the trade associations concerned, of which I will circulate a list in the OFFICIAL REPORT. The object of designation is to secure an adequate volume of Service and utility production, having regard to local demands for munition labour and factory and storage space. The list has been drawn up in consultation with the Ministry of Labour and National Service, the Admiralty, the Ministry of Supply and the Ministry of War Transport.
