HC Deb 19 May 1942 vol 380 c35
66. Mr. R. J. Taylor

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that the quantity of soap supplied under the present rationing scheme is inadequate to meet the needs of miners employed in pits where there are no pithead baths; and when he will be able to increase the soap ration to miners who have no pithead bath facilities?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food (Major Lloyd George)

I regret that I see no prospects, in view of the supply position, of granting supplementary domestic rations in the case of soap. The possibility, however, of putting miners for whom no facilities for pithead baths are available on the same footing as miners with pithead baths is being closely examined.

Mr. Taylor

When are we likely to have a decision to place the miners working where there are no pithead baths, on an equal footing with those working where there are pithead baths?

Major Lloyd George

I am sure my hon. Friend will appreciate that it is a matter of some difficulty; we are in consultation with the Mines Department, and I hope that a decision will be reached very shortly.

Mr. Taylor

If I put a Question down during the week after the Recess, can I then have an answer?

Major Lloyd George

indicated assent.
