HC Deb 19 May 1942 vol 380 c13
25. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the widespread feeling that the stabilisation of the prices of furniture at the price level operating to-day maintains prices at an unreasonably high level in relation to cost; and what steps he proposes to take to reduce these prices?

Mr. Dalton

As I informed my hon. Friend the Member for Sedgefield (Mr. Leslie) on 5th May, the Furniture (Maximum Prices) Order, 1942, is only an interim measure, and I have asked the Central Price Regulation Committee to make further recommendations on this subject.

Mr. Griffiths

Can my right hon. Friend indicate how soon he expects to receive that?

Mr. Dalton

I hope very soon. The Committee are taking an active interest in the matter, and I am very indebted to them for it.
