HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 cc1992-3
51. Sir L. Lyle

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that much of the legislation during the past three years is contradictory and impossible to enforce, particularly those sections dealing with post-war conditions; and whether he will set up a committee, with adequate legal representation, to review the position and make recommendations for clarification and consolidation where this is necessary?

Mr. Attlee

I am not aware of the legislation to which my hon. Friend refers, but if he will indicate what he has in mind to the Departments concerned, no doubt they will consider it.

Sir L. Lyle

Is it not a fact that several Ministers have stated that they must leave matters to be decided by Judges in the High Court, notably on the re-employment of men called up for the Army; and is it not an intolerable situation that this should be allowed and that Ministers cannot understand why they should have to place a strain upon the Judges of the High Court to interpret what they cannot understand themselves?

Mr. Attlee

I would like to see that question on the Paper.
