HC Deb 17 March 1942 vol 378 c1309
12. Mr. Simmonds

asked the Secretary for Petroleum whether he is aware that motorists have been discouraged from returning unused petrol coupons to his Department on account of the fact that this action has in some cases resulted in a reduction in the supplementary allowance for the following period; and what are his instructions to divisional petroleum officers in this respect?

Mr. Lloyd

The letter sent by divisional petroleum officers to applicants with their supplementary coupons states that the return of coupons unused will not prejudice consideration of future applications. I am now arranging that the petroleum officers' letter should emphasise this point and add that on the contrary it will count in a person's favour if unforeseen circumstances should oblige him to apply for a special temporary increase.

Mr. Leach

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that his new Regulations have given very great satisfaction, and will he see to it that he does not relax them?
