HC Deb 17 March 1942 vol 378 c1326
48. Mr. Simmonds

asked the Prime Minister whether any proposals have been made to the South American Republics who have severed diplomatic relations with our enemies, whereby war material would be placed at the disposal of these States on a lease-lend basis so soon as they engage in combatant action?

The Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Richard Law)

I have been asked to reply. So far as His Majesty's Government are concerned the answer is, "No, Sir."

Mr. Simmonds

Will my hon. Friend bear in mind that in the case of some countries these proposals have in the past been made too late?

Mr. Law

Yes, that is borne in mind.
