§ 21. Mr. Stokesasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Warfare the quantity of foodstuffs shipped from Turkey to Greece during the last six months of 1941 or convenient period; and how this compares with pre-war shipments over a similar period?
§ Mr. FootI have no precise figures as to Turkish exports to Greece during the last six months of 1941. But the total amount of relief foodstuffs which were shipped from Turkey for Greece during the last quarter of 1941 was 7,815 metric tons. Monthly statistics of pre-war trade are not available, but total Turkish exports of foodstuffs to Greece in 1938 were 21,319 metric tons.
§ Mr. StokesIf the hon. Gentleman cannot give figures, can he assure the House that Turkey is free to send whatever she cares to send?
§ Mr. FootWe shall certainly place no obstacle in the way. We have done everything in our power to increase the flow of Turkish indigenous products to Greece.
