HC Deb 17 March 1942 vol 378 c1316
26. Mr. Woodburn

asked the Under-secretary of State or War whether, in order to extend training in the newest forms of fighting, a proportion of the Commandos will now be utilised in the capacity of training officers and non-commissioned officers throughout the Army?

Mr. Sandys

I would refer my hon. Friend to the recent statement I made on this subject in the Debate on the Report stage of the Army Estimates. Training of the Commando variety is already being extended to other types of units.

Mr. Woodburn

Will the hon. Gentleman keep in mind that the intelligent Army of to-day rather resents a great deal of the waste of time on spit and polish arrangements and would much sooner devote their time to intelligent training of this sort?

Mr. Sandys

Smartness is conducive to discipline. This question was thoroughly discussed in the Debate last week.

Mr. Woodburn

But it has not been abolished.
