§ 25. Mr. Gallacherasked the Home Secretary whether he has considered the letter from the hon. Member for West Fife in regard to police persecution of a supporter of the "Daily Worker"; and what steps does he propose to take in the matter?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonI have caused inquiries to be made and am satisfied that there has been no persecution of the man referred to by the police. The inquiries made by the police were of a routine character and were not in any way the result of this man's activities in support of the "Daily Worker," of which the police had no knowledge.
§ Mr. GallacherWhat authority have the police for informing the managers of his place of employment and the people at his lodgings that this man is a Communist? Would it not be more sensible if the people would warn them that Tories were in the vicinity, whose policy has been responsible for all the disasters that have come upon the country?
