HC Deb 12 March 1942 vol 378 c1200
59. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary for Mines what steps he has taken to remedy the acute shortage of house coal at Willenhall, Staffordshire?

Mr. Grenfell

I am aware that house coal is in short supply in the Willenhall area. The house coal officer for the division has arranged for additional supplies to be allocated to the area, and every effort is being made to improve the local arrangements for equitable distribution.

Mr. Mander

Is my hon. Friend aware that promises of further house coal have been made in the past to Willenhall and have not been carried out, and will he see that my constituents receive the coal this time?

Mr. Grenfell

As far as possible; I have said so in my reply.

Mr. Hannah

Are the conditions at Willenhall worse than anywhere else?
