HC Deb 10 March 1942 vol 378 c917
31. Mr. Cecil Wilson

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the "Dunera" Memorandum submitted to the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom at Canberra consisted of a letter from the camp spokesman, dated 2nd December, 1940, together with an explanatory memorandum of 130 words, and a further 500 words dealing with the inducements and promises to internees at the camps before embarkation; why there has been no inquiry as to who is responsible for the failure to implement the inducements and promises; and whether the memorandum received in this country from the High Commissioner did or did not contain the letter and explanatory memorandum above referred to?

Mr. Sandys

My hon. Friend's Question and the inquiries I have made in connection with it have led me to the conclusion that certain of the matters complained of may not have been sufficiently closely investigated. I am looking further into the matter and will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
