HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 cc626-7
15. Mr. Stokes

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether the value of work, amounting to £8,700,000, placed through Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners during the period December, 1940, to 31st March, 1942, includes any cost of supervision at site; and, if so, how much?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings (Mr. Hicks)

No amount is included for salaries of supervisory staff employed by the consulting engineers on the site.

Mr. Stokes

Does my hon. Friend mean that this sum does not include any payment made to personnel engaged by the constructional engineers and employed at the site under their direction?

Mr. Hicks

The salaries of the supervisory staff are, of course, included in this sum.

16. Mr. Stokes

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether the value of work, amounting to £8,700,000, placed through Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners during the period December, 1940, to 31st March, 1942, on which fees amounting to £358,000 were paid, included the cost of land and other things, or whether it only represents the cost of work actually carried out on the site?

Mr. Hicks

The sum quoted is the estimated expenditure upon buildings and ancillary services for which the consulting engineers are responsible. It excludes the cost of land and of process machinery installed in the premises.

Mr. Stokes

Does that include the cost of any compensation paid for disturbance?

Mr. Hicks

I should want notice of that question.
