HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 cc641-2
33. Mr. Riley

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has any information regarding the cooperation of British and United States authorities in the economic development of territories in the Caribbean Sea; and whether such economic development will have the benefit of the provisions of the lease-lend enactment?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

I hope that it will be possible to make a statement about this matter shortly.

Mr. Riley

Is not it the fact that in Washington the American Committee has already been set up and is waiting, so we understand, some indication from the British Government as to their co-operation with that Committee?

Mr. Macmillan

This is a joint matter by arrangement between the two Governments, and my hon. Friend will readily understand that any statement must be made jointly.

Dr. Morgan

Will the local opinion be considered?
