HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 c634
37. Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Government of Trinidad, without previous o intimation, prohibited this year the holding of the annual carnival; and, as the suspension of that feast was generally resented, will he state the reason for this action?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

My Noble Friend has received no information from the Governor about this matter.

Mr. Adams

Will inquiries be made and the answer supplied to the House?

Mr. Macmillan

If I am pressed by my hon. Friend, of course, I will ask for the information, but the matter seems to be one which is within the discretion of the Governor.

Mr. Adams

Is not it a matter of considerable importance?
