HC Deb 03 March 1942 vol 378 c496
15. Mr. Purbrick

asked the Under-secretary of State for War the amount of overtime paid in his Department during the last month for which the figures are available; is he satisfied that each person drawing overtime has actually worked fully in all his ordinary time; and in what manner is this checked?

Mr. Sandys

The amount of overtime paid to the civilian staff of the War Office Headquarters, including evacuated staff, for the last available month is approximately £27,000. The necessity for overtime is closely scrutinised and the hours worked are checked by those responsible for supervision.
