HC Deb 30 June 1942 vol 381 c27
46. Major Sir Edward Cadogan

asked the Prime Minister whether he will accord some public recognition of the generous hospitality dispensed over a long period of time by the people of South Africa for members of His Majesty's Forces disembarking, in transit at South African ports, as evidenced by innumerable tributes of gratitude written home by those who have experienced such generosity at the hands of their South African hosts?

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir, I am glad to have this opportunity of giving public expression to the appreciation which is felt by His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom for the kindness and hospitality which have invariably been extended to all members of the Fighting Services passing through South Africa. We are all deeply grateful.

Captain Alan Graham

Would the Prime Minister make our gratitude more complete by directing that the question of the possibility of increased imports of South African products should be re-examined?

The Prune Minister

I do not think that I could put it on that basis.
