HC Deb 10 June 1942 vol 380 c1054
45. Mr. Wootton-Davies

asked the Minister of Production, in view of the policy of the Government to encourage the small contractor and spread contracts over as large a field as possible, whether he will bring this matter to the notice of those Departments who are now pursuing the opposite policy and utilising only the largest firms to supply their requirements?

The Lord President of the Council (Sir John Anderson)

It is not the policy of Departments to use only the largest firms to supply their requirements. The aim of the Government is to secure the best use of all the available capacity, and one of the purposes of the Regional Organisation is to facilitate this in regard to the smaller firms.

Mr. Wootton-Davies

If I send my right hon. Friend some correspondence with Government Departments which states that they cannot employ small firms because they have not the administration to deal with them, will he look into the matter?

Sir J. Anderson

Yes, certainly, but as I pointed out, this is being secured not directly from the Departments at the centre, but through the Regional organisation.
